Thanksgiving Baking on the Go: Sweet Treats for a Traveling Feast
With Thanksgiving just around the corner, we’re getting ready for a festive trip to Edmonton to spend the holiday with family.
It’s always such a joy to gather with loved ones during this cozy time of year, and we’re expecting quite the crew—25 people, to be exact!
Each year, I love taking on the dessert portion of our Thanksgiving meal. It’s become my little tradition, and while I’m no baker myself, I always find ways to make it work—with the help of some amazing local bakeries, of course!
With our family’s mix of dietary needs (we’re talking soy, nut, gluten, and dairy allergies), I love the challenge of finding the perfect spread of treats that everyone can enjoy.
This year, I was lucky enough to catch Duchess Bakery's Thanksgiving menu in time, and I couldn’t be more excited to share what I’ve ordered for our feast!
If you’re from Edmonton, you know that Duchess is an absolute staple.
Open since 2009, Duchess Bake Shop is known for its incredible French pastries, like macarons, croissants, and tarts, alongside Alberta favorites like brownies and butter tarts.
They make everything fresh from scratch each day—no mixes, no preservatives, just the finest ingredients.
What's on the Menu for us this year...
Pumpkin Graham Crust Pie
Pumpkin pie, but with a twist—a buttery graham cracker crust adds just the right amount of crunch to that smooth, spiced pumpkin filling.
Seasonal Macarons
Classic French almond meringue cookies with a variety of house-made fillings, including gluten-free flavors like pumpkin pie, vanilla, pistachio, and salted caramel.
Butter Tarts
Flaky pastry filled with gooey caramel goodness and just the right amount of raisins.
Triple Chocolate Chip Cookies
A twist on the classic—buttery, with caramelized milk chocolate pieces.
Banana Cream Pie
A true classic, featuring fresh bananas, pastry cream, and vanilla bean whipped cream on a flaky crust.
Triple Chocolate Brownies
Rich, fudgy, and topped with a chocolate drizzle—perfect for those serious chocolate cravings.

Ginger Cookies
Duchess's most popular cookie! Chewy, packed with spices and crystallized ginger, and made without dairy.
I’m so thankful for the talent and care that the Duchess Bakery team puts into each item.
For someone like me, who’s no pro in the kitchen, their dedication makes it easy to bring something truly special to the table and ensure that every family member has a treat they can enjoy—even with our dietary restrictions.
