The Soul of the Room: Why Area Rugs Matter (And How to Choose One You’ll Love Forever)
You can paint the walls. You can hang the art. But the minute you roll out the rug, everything changes.
A great area rug doesn’t just fill a space — it grounds it. It creates a moment. It tells the room, “This is where the magic happens.” It’s the secret weapon behind every cozy living room, pulled-together bedroom, and charming entryway that makes you linger a little longer.
We’ve always believed that your home should feel like a story you’ve been telling for years — layered, soulful, and a little unexpected. And area rugs? They’re one of the best chapters.

Choosing the Right Rug (Without Overthinking It)
The right rug is the one that makes the whole space exhale. That said, a few of our go-to tips never fail:
1. Go Bigger Than You Think
Undersized rugs are one of the most common design “oops” moments. When in doubt, size up. In a living room, the front legs of all your furniture should sit comfortably on the rug. In a bedroom, it should peek generously out from under the bed — think of it like a frame that’s embracing the whole setup.
2. Let Texture Do the Talking
Layered spaces aren’t built on color alone. They’re built on feel. Think wool, jute, vintage-washed cotton, or even shag for a bit of softness. Even in a neutral room, a textured rug can do more than a loud pattern ever could.
3. Don’t Be Afraid to Layer
One of our favorite tricks? Layering a smaller, vintage or patterned rug over a larger neutral one (like jute or sisal). It gives a lived-in, collected-over-time vibe that feels so good underfoot and to the eye.
4. Let Your Personality Shine Through
Go vintage. Go modern. Go wildly colorful or stay moody and grounded. Just make sure your rug says something about you. It doesn’t need to match everything — it just needs to feel like you.

Our Current Rug Crushes (aka What’s Under Our Feet Right Now)
We’re always swapping, styling, and falling in love with new layers — but these are the rugs currently stealing the spotlight in our own home:
Living Room: (pictured above)
The Morgan Denim/Multi Rug — layered under creamy walls, dark green built-ins, pale oak floors, and warm taupe-brown accents. It brings just enough grounding color while still letting the textures in the room shine.
Screen Porch:
The Morgan Navy/Sand Rug — surrounded by cedar shake, wood tones, whitewashed boards, and allll the plants. This one feels coastal, fresh, and quietly elegant.
Bedroom:
The Morgan Sunset/Ink Rug — tucked beneath layers of taupe, soft pinks, moody mauves, and the dreamiest pink Rifle Paper Co. hydrangea wallpaper. This one feels like sleeping in a secret garden. And yes, we’re obsessed.

Disclaimer:
When we chose these rugs for our spaces, we’re not expecting them to last until the end of time. We’re intentionally selecting more budget-friendly options that still look beautiful, so we have the freedom to swap things out down the road if our style evolves (as it always does). It’s all about creating layered, lived-in spaces that feel right right now — without the pressure of forever.
Final Thought:
Rugs Are Like RecordsYou collect them slowly. You fall in love with their imperfections. You remember where you were when you found that one.
And just like the best songs, a great rug doesn’t just fill a space — it sets the tone.
So roll one out. Let your space breathe. And tell your story, one fiber at a time.
Happy Styling
