Poppy ‘Rattle Poppy’
Shipping : Mid/Late February 2026
Big blooms, bold seedpods, and old-world garden drama.
Breadseed Poppy ‘Giganthemum’, also known as ‘Ziar’, is the definition of a statement plant. This variety produces some of the largest poppy flowers you will ever see, with pale lavender petals and deep grape-purple centers that glow in early summer light. The blooms are striking, but the real magic comes afterward. Once petals fall, enormous decorative seedpods form, often growing to the size of limes or even tennis balls, adding structure and interest long after flowering has finished.
These hardy annuals are easy to grow and incredibly rewarding, especially for gardeners who love plants that do more than one job. Bees are drawn to the dark blue pollen, while gardeners appreciate the drought tolerance and low-fuss nature once established. The seedpods are not only beautiful for fresh and dried arrangements, but they are also filled with edible poppy seeds, perfect for baking and pantry use.
This is a plant that brings abundance to the garden in every sense, offering blooms, texture, and harvestable seed all in one season.
Because sometimes bigger really is better.

Seed Sowing & Growing Notes:
Breadseed poppies dislike being transplanted and perform best when direct-sown. Sow seeds directly onto the soil surface after all danger of frost has passed, as seeds need light to germinate. Keep soil lightly moist until seedlings emerge. Plants prefer well-drained soil that is not overly fertile. Slugs are fond of young plants, so monitor early growth.
Harvesting & Vase Life:
Harvest flowers when they are about half-open, and sear stem ends in boiling water for 7 to 10 seconds. Blooms are short-lived, with a vase life of approximately 2 to 3 days. Seedpods can be harvested once mature and dried for decorative use or saved for baking, lasting indefinitely.
A bold, generous classic that leaves something beautiful behind.
