Wild, romantic spires with timeless cottage soul.

Foxglove ‘Excelsior’ is the classic foxglove of storybook gardens. Tall, commanding spires rise in a beautifully balanced mix of rich purple, lilac, lavender-blush, and soft white, each bell freckled with chocolate and pale markings that look as though they were painted by hand. This mix mirrors wild foxglove almost exactly, bringing that natural, old-world feeling into cultivated garden spaces.

When grown en masse, the effect is breathtaking. These towering blooms create rhythm, height, and a sense of quiet drama that anchors borders and elevates large-scale arrangements. For cutting gardens, they solve the challenge of adding vertical interest without feeling stiff or overly formal. Few flowers make such an impact with so little interference.

As a biennial, ‘Excelsior’ rewards patience. Plants overwinter quietly, then burst into bloom the following spring, offering one of the earliest and most memorable floral moments of the season. It is a commitment worth making for gardeners who appreciate beauty that unfolds slowly.

Because some of the most beautiful things take time.

Important Note:

All parts of foxglove are poisonous, including the seeds. Use caution when planting around children and pets.

Seed Sowing & Growing Notes:

Sow seeds from late spring through early summer. Transplant seedlings into the garden at least six weeks before the first autumn frost. Plants will overwinter outdoors and bloom the following spring. Seeds are very small, so bottom-watering is recommended until seedlings emerge.

Harvesting & Vase Life:

Harvest stems when just a few of the bottom blossoms have opened and before bees pollinate the flowers. Expect a vase life of approximately 6 to 8 days.

A true cottage garden classic that rewards patience with unforgettable beauty.
