Harvest when blooms are three-quarters open for longest life. Dahlias do not continue to unfurl after cutting, so select flowers with firm, supple petals rather than papery ones. For best results, place stems in warm water with hydrator or sear ends in 160°F to 180°F water and allow to cool. Expect an average vase life of 5 days.
