Strawflower ‘Dragon Fire’, also known in the trade as Purple Red, brings rich drama to the cutting garden. Long, sturdy stems carry layers of deep wine-colored, double blooms that feel moody, romantic, and grounding all at once. Blooming steadily from midsummer right through to frost, this variety delivers when other flowers begin to slow down.
Used fresh, it adds weight and intensity to bouquets. Dried, it becomes an everlasting, holding both color and form indefinitely. This makes it a go-to for fall arrangements, wreaths, and dried floral work where longevity truly matters. Pollinators adore it too, making it a hardworking favourite in the garden.

Seed Sowing & Growing Notes:
Start seeds indoors about 6 weeks before last frost. Transplant outdoors once all danger of frost has passed. Seeds require light to germinate, so press gently into the soil and do not cover. Bottom-water until seedlings emerge.
Harvesting & Vase Life:
Harvest when flowers are about half open and before pollination for best color and structure. Expect a fresh vase life of 7 days or more. To dry, remove foliage and hang stems upside down in a warm, dark place until fully firm.
