Painterly petals with old-soul charm.
Viola ‘Brush Strokes’ feels like a tiny piece of art growing in the garden. Each bloom is striped and splashed in rich, moody tones of eggplant, wine, apricot, and warm golden yellow, as if someone dragged a paintbrush across the petals. As the flowers age, a soft blue cast settles in, giving them that beautiful, timeworn, sepia-like quality we can’t stop admiring. It is no surprise this has become one of our favourites.
These compact, hardy plants are early-season stars, bringing personality and depth to the garden when very little else is flowering. Their expressive faces add character to petite arrangements, spring posies, and tucked-in moments where detail matters most. They are especially lovely when you want something more interesting than a standard pastel.
Cold-tolerant and dependable, ‘Brush Strokes’ offers long-lasting colour with minimal effort, making it a thoughtful choice for gardeners who value beauty and practicality in equal measure.
Because sometimes the smallest blooms tell the richest story.

Seed Sowing & Growing Notes:
Start seeds indoors in trays 8 to 12 weeks before last frost. Seeds require darkness to germinate, so cover lightly. Violas can tolerate a light frost, allowing cold-climate gardeners to transplant outdoors about two weeks before the last frost date.
Harvesting & Vase Life:
Harvest flowers as they begin to open. Stems lengthen as plants mature. Expect a vase life of approximately 5 to 7 days.
A tiny, expressive bloom that brings artful detail to every spring arrangement.
