Zinnia ‘Unicorn Mix’, lovingly known around the farm as Chris’s Rainbow, is one of those varieties that makes you stop and stare. It’s Chris’s absolute favorite, and once you see it in bloom, you’ll understand why. Medium-sized, domed flowers open in an enchanting blend of raspberry, tangerine, magenta, lemon, apricot, dusty lilac, and blush, each one anchored by a striking lavender center.
What truly sets this mix apart is its multitoned, ombre effect. Many blooms carry a rainbow-like quality that shifts and deepens as the flowers mature. Let them linger on the plant and you’ll be rewarded with their full spectrum of colour, making every harvest feel like a small surprise.
Long, strong stems and generous productivity make this variety as practical as it is joyful. It brings personality, movement, and a sense of fun to bouquets while still feeling thoughtfully grown and beautifully balanced.

Seed Sowing & Growing Notes:
Start seeds indoors 4 to 6 weeks before your last frost. Zinnias are very cold sensitive, so wait until all danger of frost has passed before planting outdoors. Seeds can also be direct-seeded once the weather is consistently warm. Pinching encourages branching and more blooms.
Harvesting & Vase Life:
Use the wiggle test before cutting. Hold the stem about 8 inches below the bloom and gently shake. If the stem bends, wait. If it remains stiff and upright, it is ready to harvest. Do not place zinnias in the cooler. Zinnias can cloud vase water quickly, so add a few drops of bleach to keep stems fresh. Expect a vase life of about 7 days.
