Basil ‘Dark Opal’ is the darkest basil we have ever grown, with foliage so deep it reads nearly black. When paired with vibrant summer blooms, it creates instant contrast and a sense of depth that elevates even the simplest arrangement. Its rich color alone earns it a place in the cutting garden, but the warm, clove-like scent and mild, earthy aroma make it truly unforgettable.

Seed Sowing & Growing Notes:
Start seeds indoors about 6 weeks before last frost. Transplant outdoors only after all danger of frost has passed and temperatures have warmed, as basil is very sensitive to cold. Warm soil and consistent heat encourage strong growth and rich coloration.
Harvesting & Vase Life:
Harvest when stems begin to toughen or as flower buds start to form. Cut during the coolest part of the day to reduce wilting. Immediately dip the lower stems in boiling water for 7 to 10 seconds or use Quick Dip, then place in cool water. Expect a vase life of 7 to 10 days.
