The Girlfriends’ Guide To Gifting: Cozy Swap Party
Now that the holidays have arrived, we’re taking every opportunity to gather with our nearest and dearest, including our close-knit friend crew. A heartwarming theme, an indulgent menu and lots of great gifts to steal—er, share! Read on for more of our chic party tips and fun swapping tricks. Set a few gifting guidelines for your guests and let them know ahead of time. Set a price point so no one ends up with jelly beans when they brought diamonds. It’s also fun to set a theme for the gifts. Ours was “something cozy,” meaning scarves, hats, blankets, candles, etc.
A simple centerpiece of eucalyptus, candles and gold Christmas bulbs set a color palette complimented by gold flatware, brass champagne toasting cups, a marble table cloth and earthenware plates. Keep it casual by gathering around a coffee table with loads of pillows for cozy seating. We made ours a champagne brunch because we all need more bubbly before noon. Pastries, quiche, croissants and savory crepes make for tasty (and pretty) treats.
We always play the classic white elephant gift exchange. The rules are:
1. If someone steals your gift, you can steal someone else’s gift or choose and open a wrapped one.
2. A gift can only be stolen twice.
3. A gift cannot be immediately stolen back from the player who just stole it.
4. Continue until everyone has had a turn for a gift.
