How to refresh stale bread in a stasher
We all love buying artisan loaves of bread from a bakery, but we often run into the problem of having the bread go stale before we even get a chance to finish eating it! Do you have that problem, too? Before you consider tossing the loaf of stale bread into the trash, let us show you an easy way to refresh your bread using stasher bags!
All you need to do is slice up your bread and gently pat the outside of a slice with a bit of water. The amount of water you apply depends on the staleness of the bread. If the bread is rock hard, you might consider patting both sides of the bread with a bit of water. If the bread is hard on the outside but soft on inside, lightly pat water on one side of the bread around the edges. Transfer the bread slices to your stasher bag, seal and bake. That’s it!
Here’s a detailed guide on how to refresh your bread with stasher bags.
Preheat your oven to 375ºF. Position an oven rack to the upper third position.
Slice the bread to the desired thickness. If your bread is slightly stale (i.e., the outer crust is firm but the center is still a little soft), lightly pat one side of a bread slice with water. If your bread is very dry on the inside and out, lightly pat both sides of the bread with water.
Transfer bread slices into a stasher and seal the bag. Be sure to press out any air bubbles. Lay the bag on top of a baking sheet or pie dish. Bake the bread for 6 to 8 minutes.
Using oven mitts or tea towels, carefully open the stasher bag and check to see if the bread has softened. The bag will be very hot, so be careful as you do this. If the bread is still very firm, sprinkle a bit more water over the bread and bake it in the stasher for a few more minutes.
Using tongs, remove the bread from the stasher and serve. If you want to get a nice crunch on the outside of the bread, bake the bread slices directly on a baking sheet or pie dish for another 6 to 8 minutes.
